Twitter is a wonderful tool you can use for marketing, networking, keeping in touch with your downline and for team building. And best of all it's free!
But many people still dismiss Twitter as just another time wasting social networking fad. But for smart network marketers it just may be the new killer app.
Why? Here's 3 ways you can use Twitter to promote and build your networking business:
#1 - Marketing - You can use Twitter for marketing your business by setting up an account and posting good tips and information about your products and your business. It's easy since you are limited to only 140 characters per post and you don't need to be a great writer to do it. If you can write short sentences, you can use Twitter.
Check out my Twitter account at http://twitter.com/LindaLocke to see how I do this. People can get a sense of who you are and get to know you better, which helps them to decide if they want to work with you. To promote your Twitter page, just add the link to your website or blog and to your signature file on emails, any articles you write, and discussion board posts.
Whose team would you rather join? Someone who is using cutting edge tools or someone who is still doing it the hard way? And if you want to attract younger people to your business using Twitter is one of the best ways to connect with them.

You don't need big bucks to promote your business, all you really need is some good ideas and the willingness to think outside the box. There are lots of low-cost, but very effective ways to market your business without a big bankroll. Here's an article that tells you how to put some of these inexpensive techniques to work for you now.
Marketing your business without breaking the bank
People new to network marketing often ask if they should buy leads to promote their business. My advice to them is to save their money and generate their own high quality leads using a variety of low cost techniques both on and off line.
Here's some of the best ways to attract leads online. You can:
- Write articles and get them published on content sites like WAHM Articles and submit them to ezines and web based magazines like MLMWoman.com to promote your business
- Participate in bulletin boards like MLMTalk and share your experience and advice with others
- Start your own ezine using a service like Constant Contact to promote your business
- Start a web based networking site using Ryze.com, Ning.com, or Squidoo.com
- Send out an electronic press release about your business using prweb.com
- Create a web site for your business or create a blog for your business
using Blogger, Wordpress.com, or Typepad.com
- Promote traffic to your web site using search engines and pay per click advertising
- Run classified ads in online ezines and network marketing websites Web Classifieds that cater to your target market
- Set up a Facebook or MySpace page for your business.
Off the net you can:
- Join a local business networking group and buy their mailing list and
send out a letter or a postcard introducing yourself and offering a
free sample or a discount to new customers
- Join a business leads group where the other members give you leads as part of the weekly meetings
- Attend continuing education classes to meet people who have an interest in what you sell
- Teach a class at your local community college on how to start a home based business
- Run low cost classified ads in your local daily or weekly newspaper
You get the idea. By collecting the leads yourself through a variety of means you'll have access to quality leads that really will bring you business.

If the thought of developing a full-blown marketing
plan for your networking business seems like too much time and trouble
for you — here's an idea that's easier and just as effective — developing
your own marketing calendar.
Now this isn’t the usual everyday to-do list type of calendar. No, this is one you create specifically for your business marketing.
First, buy one of those large desk calendars with plenty of room for writing. Then, take a colored pen and highlight all the upcoming holidays and any other business special events you want to plan for. Then decide what your marketing plan will be for the upcoming months. Decide on a target date when you’d like to get out an offer to your current customer list to announce an upcoming event or special product offer. For example, you might want to do a postcard mailing featuring some of your specials for the season or an open house you have planned.
After you’ve decided on the target date for the mailing, you can then look at the calendar and mark in the date to start preparing your marketing materials to be ready to mail. Also indicate on your calendar the days when the mailings are likely to reach your customers and then plan to be near the phone on those days and waiting for all those calls to come in.
This is a simple but effective technique that can also be used for publicity and other marketing efforts as well. You’ll be able to see your marketing plan at a glance, boost your sales, and be organized too!

It's so easy to get overwhelmed when you start thinking about all the ways you could market your business. There are so many options you can choose from and so many decisions to make.
So here's an idea to help you cut through the fog of indecision and get something done:
Choose a different marketing method to focus on for each month. For example, join a new business networking group in January, send out some press releases in February, start a blog in March etc. By choosing only one area to focus on each month as a goal, you're more likely to stick with it and get positive results.
